ATEX Solenoid Valves Brass, Stainless Steel or Plastic.ATEX solenoid valves are used where there is a potential for an explosive gas or explosive dust atmosphere, where a simple spark from an electrical fault, short circuit or even a very hot surface could cause an ignition and potential explosion of flame. In many food processing, chemical processing, paint spraying, fine organic dusts such as grain flour or wood and petrochemical processing applications the chemicals, vapours, mists or dusts used can be in themselves or combined with other agents as liquids or gases be potentially flammable or explosive by nature and after ignition combustion spreads to the entire un-burnt mixture. This is especially true for enclosed areas or where they may be limited ventilation of fresh clean and safe air exposure. For example natural gas, propane, petrol, saw dust and even flour if mixed with oxygen (air) in the right proportions can be ignited by any spark leading to fires or even explosions so severe that injuries would be fatal. It is of paramount importance that any electrical equipment to be used in an ATEX Hazardous area complies with the laws for hazardous area use and to this end electromagnetic solenoid valves are available with ATEX EExm totally encapsulated coils fitted with thermal fuses, that will not exceed set temperatures such as EExmIIT4 limited too 135 degrees centigrade surface temperature of the coil or EExmIIT6 limited to 85 degrees Centigrade. Users can choose the correct coil maximum surface temperature according to the potentially explosive gases or dusts within their environment. With this ATEX technology if the coil or system fails and the temperature reaches the maximum allowable surface temperature the internal thermal fuse will cut the electrical circuit thus protecting the equipment and atmosphere from an ignition source. ATEX EExdIICT6 totally enclosed coils or explosion proof coils are also available whereby the electrical components are totally enclosed within a metal casing that has sufficient strength to withstand an internal ignition. Although caution is advised during maintenance of these devises due to exposure and potential ingress of explosive gases or dusts if opened.
